I know this is usually a quilting site, but this year we have made a Doll Quilt every month. It has been a lot of fun! While I know many of these quilts will be hung on a wall or placed on a table, I thought we needed a simple Doll to go with these quilts. So Twiggy was born…
Isn’t she sweet? I have never designed a doll before but I am sure happy with the results. I found a stamp at our regional quilt show (Road to California) that is a cube with four face stamps. It is called Diva Doll Face Cube from Postmodern Rubber Stamps. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a Postmodern Stamp website to link to, so I drew some similar faces and have included them on the instructional PDF at the end of this post. You could print them out on one of those printer fabric sheets (from Printed Treasures or June Tailor) through your computer. The packaging on the sheets has the instructions to follow. Or you could just trace them onto your fabric with a light box… or google Drawing Doll Faces and find a site with a face you like. And you could also make an Amish Doll that has no facial features.
Twiggy is a very simple doll to make. She is about 17″ tall. Just a bit of fabric and an afternoon or two and you should have her all made up. She gets her name from the Twig (literally) that is used inside to keep her head from slumping down. I had planned to use some vintage 30s fabric for her dress, but then I saw this piece of Kaffe in my stash and had to use it. I even gave her shoes to match!
Personalize her anyway you like… give her some bling or an apron or ???. We are going to have a Doll Fashion Show in my classes the week of November 26. I’ll post some pics from those events. But in the meantime, make a doll for a little girl you love… Or for the little girl inside of you! All you need to know to make Twiggy is in the free Instructional PDF at the end of this post…

I have loved the doll quilts because every year our guild makes quilts and puts dolls or teddy bears in them for Christmas Cheer for the less fortunate in our community. Thanks for them.
