States Of Modern – Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Lakes

Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Lakes is familiar to many of us as the home of Mary Richards in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. That show took place in the Twin Cities:  Minneapolis and Saint Paul.  But there is so much more to this beautiful state!  That nickname of Land of 10,000 Lakes is no joke. Actually there’s way more than that in this beautiful state. I live in California, land of mega drought… 10,000+ lakes sounds very good to me right now!

States Minnesota

So I made a big “lake” on our block representing Minnesota’s 10,000 and more bodies of water. The block is also a bit inspired by the Minnesota flag… A very minimalistic interpretation of that flag!
Here are some Minnesota state facts:

Capital: Saint Paul

Admission to statehood: May 11, 1858 (32nd State)

Flag: The Minnesota state flag is royal blue, with a gold fringe. In the center of the flag is the state seal. Around the state seal is a wreath of the state flower, the lady slipper. Three dates are woven into the wreath: 1858, the year Minnesota became a state; 1819, the year Fort Snelling was established; and 1893, the year the official flag was adopted. Nineteen stars ring the wreath. The largest star represents Minnesota.

Bird: Common Loon

Flower: Pink and white Lady’s-Slipper

Largest cities: Minneapolis, Saint Paul and Rochester
