Spring Medallion Appliqué Border, Part 2

20120318-113739.jpg

The mystery is solved. The appliqué border for the Spring Medallion quilt is ready… And it is beautiful, don’t you think? And truly the pic doesn’t do it justice.

This week shows the majority of the applique border. Using the elements from the center block to create the border adds unity to the design. Note that there are four birds looking one way and four looking the other so some birds are traced in the reverse. Next week we will discuss mitering the corners and add a final bit of appliqué so be sure to came back and check on our progress.

Don’t forget, this applique is done on background fabric cut 7″ X Width of Fabric (at least 41″.)  Work from the center out.  Do Not Trim yet.  We need the excess for the miters.
Since this project has both piecing and appliqué, I thought I would offer a question to you… Which do you prefer to do… Piecing or Appliqué?  Let me know by leaving a comment below.

Here is the Appliqué PDF (2 Pages!) …

And if you missed any earlier installments in this series… Go to The Spring Medallion Archive.

Check back for the mitering and continuing applique patterns next week (March 24)…

Thanks for stopping by.  Below is my quilt still in process… We still have 3 more borders for this quilt.

Don’t forget to leave a comment on whether you enjoy Piecing or Applique more.  I’m having trouble deciding.  I guess that’s why I like this quilt with some of each method!
