Ray’s Finds: Antique 16-Patch Quilt Circa 1900

Our friend Ray has found another gem! Made circa 1890-1910, this 16 patch has held up well. Just look at it…

Ray really has a great eye and manages to find wonderful antique quilts in his travels. This one, in addition to some wonderful indigos, has lots of great woven Ginghams, and with those large alternate blocks, would be a snap to make. In fact, I saw a quilt like this in the boys’ upstairs bedroom of the Nixon Birthplace (on the California’s Gold TV program) here in my hometown of Yorba Linda. That one was sashed 16 patches and appeared to me to be made in the same period. I have been wanting to make one like it ever since. Hmmm… which will I (you) make? Start gathering up your scraps.

Will you make it Scrappy?

Or Controlled?

I still haven’t decided!

Anyway, I will write up the instructions for both quilts, sashed and alternate block set. So watch for the patterns to pop up here at LynBrown.Com soon. And many thanks to Ray for sharing these photos of his quilt with us.

My NOCCCD SCE OAP Classes start up for Fall Semester this week of September 10, 2012 I can’t wait see all my students again. Don’t forget to bring some Show N Tell! Join US! If you are new to class, the New Student Supply List is, of course, for any new student joining us for the first time.
The Burgoyne Surrounded Supply List 2012 is for our first new project of the Fall.
And here is the info/Patterns for our past swap/scrap-quilts. And I may as well repost the info on the Rainbow Triangles Quilt. And the 2012 Rainbow Swaps PDF has the color info for each month’s swap. Are you up to date?
We will be swapping the Iris 2012 in October. Be sure to get in on this swap if you are a class member. If you can’t join our class, join or form a quilting group in your area. And maybe they will be willing to do this swap with you. And of course you could make a set of blocks yourself to create a quilt.
In addition to these projects, our Doll Quilt Series and our Quilters Alphabet Block of the Week will continue so check back here periodically.
For even more patterns/Inspiration check out my Etsy site. I just added the Jack’s Lantern pattern to the site just in time for Halloween.

Make A Great Quilt!
