Nautical Tumble: Marking, Stitching, Cutting The Tumbler/Thimble Shape

My idea for setting these blocks has been to trim them to Tumbler/Thimble shapes and now is the time to do the trimming!

If you remember, this is my mock up from when we first started.  We’ve done lots of blocks since then and they aren’t depicted here.  So our completed quilt will be lots more interesting!  If your have followed along, you know all the blocks, If not, here is the Nautical Tumble Archive of Blocks.

This is going to make an innovative quilt and its gonna be grand, but it will make the quilt Narrower (about 68″ x 76″ vs 76″ square.) so if you want the larger finished size, skip trimming your blocks. BUT if you want to try something different, give this a go! The PDF with all instruction is at the end of this post. Be sure to read thoroughly. There’s a couple fine points you need to know.
Next week I’ll post the instructions to set all the blocks together so check back again.
