Happy Valentine’s Day! No Class on Friday or Monday due to the President’s Holiday. And it seems we may be having class on Tuesday (at The Muck in Fullerton and at Buena Park Senior Center) because the judge on my Jury Service case has other commitments. The court case will resume next Thursday so class will again be day to day after that. We have been told to expect to serve Ten Days but one never knows. The parties could settle or testimony could take longer so just keep checking back here at LynBrown.com.
This Jury commitment has thrown me a bit off my time table for posts. I had hoped to post this Heart Ornie sooner so it could be enjoyed for Valentines Day. But if you are looking for a quick VDay project, you could make it today AND enjoy it (or give it) today. But the real purpose of these Ornies is for the Christmas Tree!
Now about the Ornament itself… It’s just a small pillow. The skill here is applying the Rick Rack trim. Here’s how I do it:
Cut out two hearts using the pattern on the PDF below. You’ll also need 24″ of Rick Rack (I used the small RR I had on hand but any size would do), 9″- 12″ of White Ribbon and some stuffing.
Starting at the bottom of the heart, baste the RR in place on the right side of one of the hearts so the edge of the RR is at the edge of the heart as shown. Not that I ran my stitches just to catch the “tips” of the RR about an1/8″ (might be larger if using larger RR) in. Fold the ribbon length in half and pin in place at the cleft of the heart and the ribbon laying against the heart. Note that I placed my ribbon with the fold at the cleft so I was able the tie a bow. The other option is to place the raw edges at the cleft for just a loop without the bow.
Next place the two hearts Rights Sides Together with the basted one on top and stitch a 1/4″ seam (might be larger if using larger RR), leaving and opening to turn. Turn and stuff. Slip stitch the opening.
Note that I placed my ribbon with the fold at the cleft so I was able the tie a bow. The other option is to place the raw edges at the cleft for just a loop without the bow.
