I’ve been doing this (making and designing quilts) long enough (15+ years!) to know I always feel this way… But… Didn’t we just start this Sampler Quilt with the Sputnik Block? And here we are finishing it off! Or, well, at least setting all the different sized blocks together!
That title isn’t quite right. This final block of our MCM Sampler Quilt is actually four blocks. You can make them all the same, all different or in pairs.

Our previous block was inspired by artist Piet Mondrian (Tustin Color Block) and this block is inspired by artist Alexander Calder. Similarly, Calder was influenced (or as Wikipedia says “shocked”) by Mondrian to embrace abstract art. Lucky for us!

The Boomerang shape shows up again and again in Mid Century design. In table tops and light fixtures; on Formica and in sculptural elements, ashtrays, candy dishes and even in lighting! So I’ve done our own Boomerang MCM block.
